Wavelight PRK

At Dr. Daljit Singh Eye Hospital, we offer Wavelight PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy) — an advanced, blade-free laser vision correction technique ideal for those who are not suitable for LASIK due to thin corneas, irregular surfaces, or active lifestyles.

Using the state-of-the-art Alcon Wavelight EX500 Excimer Laser, our surgeons perform PRK with unmatched precision, safety, and comfort — ensuring stable, long-term visual results.
				What is PRK?
PRK is the original form of laser vision correction — refined and perfected over decades with modern technology.
Unlike LASIK, PRK does not involve creating a corneal flap. Instead, the surface layer (epithelium) is gently removed, and the laser reshapes the cornea directly to correct myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), or astigmatism.

After treatment, a protective contact lens is placed for healing, and the epithelium naturally regenerates within a few days.
Why Choose Wavelight PRK at DSEH
- Wavelight EX500 Excimer Laser Technology: Our cutting-edge laser system offers the fastest ablation speed (500 Hz) with sub-micron precision, ensuring smoother corneal surfaces and better optical outcomes.
- Ideal for Thin or Irregular Corneas: For patients not eligible for LASIK or FemtoContoura, PRK provides a safe and effective alternative without compromising vision quality.
- No Blade, No Flap, No Touch: PRK is a completely surface-based, flap-free procedure — perfect for those engaged in contact sports, defense services, or who prefer a more conservative approach.
- Experienced Surgeons: Our senior consultants have decades of experience in refractive surgery and have successfully treated thousands of patients using the most advanced laser systems.
- NABH-Accredited Excellence: With over 40 years of trusted eye care and India’s first intraocular lens implantation legacy, DSEH combines innovation with heritage to deliver outstanding visual outcomes.

Who is a Good Candidate for PRK?
You may be suitable for PRK if you:
				- Have thin or irregular corneas unsuitable for LASIK
- Have dry eyes or contact lens intolerance
- Lead an active lifestyle (athletes, defense personnel, etc.)
- Prefer a flapless, surface-based laser correction
The Wavelight PRK Procedure
- Comprehensive Eye Evaluation: Corneal mapping, topography, and thickness assessment using advanced diagnostics like Oculus Pentacam and Nidek OPD Scan III.
- Surface Preparation: The corneal epithelium is gently removed.
- Laser Reshaping: The Wavelight EX500 laser precisely reshapes the cornea to correct the refractive error.
- Protective Contact Lens: A soft lens is placed to protect the eye during healing.
- Recovery & Follow-Up: The epithelium regenerates within 3–5 days, and visual clarity continues to improve over the next few weeks.
Recovery & Results
Most patients experience noticeable improvement in vision within the first week, with optimal clarity achieved over 4–6 weeks.

PRK offers stable, long-term vision correction with zero flap-related risks and minimal long-term side effects.
